Palm Beach House

Palm Beach
Northern Beaches
Sydney NSW

SCOPE: Extension, Internal Renovation

APPROVAL: DA, Northern Beaches Council

ARCHITECTURE: MILEHAM

Originally designed by renowned Australian Architect Philip Cox AO, this architecturally significant beach house has been thoughtfully updated by MILEHAM to enhance its functionality, whilst preserving its original design integrity.

The internal renovation focused on improving two key interior spaces: a confined, windowless galley kitchen and a dated external laundry. The kitchen was transformed into a dramatic triangular layout filled with natural light, offering both visual impact and a welcoming space for entertaining. The new configuration reflects the owner's passion for hosting, with improved flow and connection to the surrounding living and outdoor entertaining spaces.

The outdated external laundry made way for a modern, internalised family bathroom, delivering increased internal amenity and comfort for everyday living, whilst respecting the home’s original architectural vision.

Outdoors, a cedar-clad beach shower was added among the palm trees, providing a relaxed, tactile experience for washing off after time spent at the beach. This addition not only added character, but enhanced the home's connection to its coastal setting.

The Palm Beach House project demonstrates how sensitive design can breathe new life into a heritage home, blending contemporary coastal living with architectural legacy.
