January 2024: 2024 is the Year of the Home Renovation!

Don't take it from us! Take it from Domain, who are advising aspiring home renovators to get started before expected interest rate cuts later this year put further pressure on building material prices and (already scarce) tradie availability.

But we've identified another reason sooner is better than later in 2024...

Our recently departed friend La Nina is predicted for a sooner than expected return, with the ABC reporting that 60% of models are predicting a return of this wet weather system by Spring. Key to avoiding this construction nemesis is getting your home to lockup stage, so that work can continue moving forward inside your weather tight home whilst the rains come down outside.

Book your free consultation today and let's talk about how we can help navigate your 2024 home renovation timeline.

Why Price per Square Meter is Not a Good Rule of Thumb

In the world of home renovation and building, the price per square meter has long been a go-to metric for homeowners and builders alike.

However, it has become increasingly evident that relying solely on this metric is an oversimplification of the complex factors that influence construction costs.

Here, we delve into the history behind why price per square meter estimating is so popular, and why it may not be the most relevant guide for your home renovation or new home build.

How much are planning submission fees?

You should budget up to $4,000 to pay for submission of your plans to your local Council (for DA) or Private Certifier (for CDC) for their review and approval.

You should also budget around $10,000 for authority charges, a (refundable) security bond, and a Long Service Levy. The specifics of these charges will be outlined in the consent letter you receive from Council or your Private Certifier once your plans are approved, and invoiced by the relevant third party.
